Low Carbon Communities
COIN has worked with communities since 2004 during which time we have organised talks and conferences, set up climate action groups, delivered trainings and given support to other climate change organisations.
Current Activities
Training
We deliver a range of trainings to low carbon communities. In 2009, we have provided trainings on climate change for Cambridge Carbon Footprint, Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon, Vision 21 Gloucestershire and Climate Camp.
Our trainings for Low Carbon Communities include:
-
Climate Change Condensed: Everything you need to know about climate change in just 3 hours.

-
How to Win the Climate Change Argument in a 15 Minute Tea break: A 3 hour training designed to enable you to overcome sceptics and mobilise peers.
-
Communicating Climate Change: A highly interactive one-day course covering the latest research on what people think about climate change, conflicting mass media messages and overcoming denial and evasion.
-
Speaker Training: An intensive one-day training aimed at giving participants the text, information, skills and confidence to prepare and deliver a persuasive half-hour talk on climate change.
Incubation

Collaboration
COIN is an active supporter of Campaign against Climate Change and Climate Camp and is a member of Low Carbon Communities Network and Stop Climate Chaos. We lend our expertise to all four organisations by providing cut price or free training workshops as well as participating in and promoting their work. COIN also provided significant start up support to Low Carbon Communities Network - our Director of Projects, George Marshall, sat on the founding committee, provided external advice and co-facilitated the first annual conference.
In 2009, COIN is supporting the UK climate change movement's efforts to mobilise the UK on climate change in the run-up to Copenhagen.
