Ecovation

If the Government's expressed target of cutting national greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2050 is to be achieved, the eco-renovation of owner-occupied housing will be a vital focus for strategic thinking and concerted action.

Ecovation is a project run by COIN in partnership with Climate-X which aims to support home-owners to eco-renovate their homes.  The programme runs a range of activities from the ecovation website which provides comprehensive information and advice to  open day events in which home-owners open their homes to the public.

The Ecovation Website

COIN's Ecovation website is dedicated to providing comprehensive information and advice to owner-occupiers wishing to renovate their homes to the highest possible energy standards. The website and learning network is intended to create a web-based community to enable experienced or newly-persuaded eco-renovators, or 'ecovators', to share information and discuss issues and projects. Website content is divided into topics such as insulation, ventilation, solar and wind technologies, summer cooling, materials, lighting and water and sewerage. The website includes case studies, open days and publications.

If you would like more information on the project or would like to submit material to the site, contact: ecovation@coinet.org.uk.

The Yellow House CD

Order your copy of the Yellow House CD - George Marshall's story of how together with his wife Annie, he eco-renovated his 1930's ex-council house into an environmental dream. They show how they reduced their energy consumption by two thirds and renovated their home using sustainable materials, but without losing comfort or style.  The Yellow House CD includes info on:

• How to slash heating and electric bills
• How to build a solid oak kitchen for under a grand
• How to reduce water bills by two-thirds
• Detailed sections on ventilation, insulation, green living
• Six easy to apply principles of eco-design
• How your conservatory or porch can generate energy for your house

Ecovation Open Days and Pack

The Ecovation Open Days run for four days as part of the Heritage Open Days - www.heritageopendays.org, which celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. We think that in times of Climate Change eco-renovated and eco-built houses ought to play a major role in this event.

With the Ecovation Open Day event we are:
• Offering people the opportunity to see what Low- and Zero-Carbon technologies could be applied to homes  in Oxfordshire, and gain practical advice from house owners
• Increasing the network of Eco-renovators in Oxfordshire
• Increasing the profile of home eco-renovations, to demonstrate what is possible for individual home    owners, to stimulate demand in Oxfordshire
