Climate Change Condensed (for Local Authorities)

The only course in Britain to offer a fast-moving ‘all-you-need-to-know’ introduction to climate change in just three hours.

"I found this course engaging, fun and ultimately it left me feeling very positive about our collective capacity to tackle climate change."
Rachel Segal Hamilton, Project Coordinator at Envision

Who is the course for?

This course has been held for officers, elected members and the general public alike. For participants who are new to climate change it provides a solid grounding in the topic and the case for action. For those with more experience, the event offers fresh perspectives on climate change and a framework for sharing knowledge and experience.

The half-day format and close group work makes this course particularly helpful for employee awareness-raising, teambuilding and community outreach. Gloucestershire County Council adopted this workshop to launch an internal Climate Champions programme as part of their NI185 implementation; and sponsored public events in every District across the County.

What happens in the workshop?

As ‘guides’ to the issues, the workshop includes a thread of short video presentations by leading scientists and award-winning climate change journalists, George Monbiot and Mark Lynas.  The workshop is highly participatory, facilitating dynamic group and pair discussions.

Topics covered include:
•    Causes and impacts of climate change
•    The need for adaptation
•    The scientific and political consensus
•    Personal carbon emissions
•    What will a low-carbon society look like?
•    Strategies to tackle climate change
•    Optimistic visions of the future

'Should be compulsory’ – Roy Thomson, Biodiversity Officer
