Climate Change and Action Course for Refugees and Migrants

Wednesday 16 December 2009, 2:00pm - 5:00pm in London

Building on the success of the first refugee and migrant forum in October, COIN is offering free training for refugees and migrants on Climate Change and Action this December. At the October meeting, attendees voted for the forum to pursue long-term advocacy, lobbying and awareness-raising activities in relation to climate change. The 3-hour Climate Change and Action training session will provide the next step forward in building a powerful, collective voice on the issue. The first half of the session aims to build confidence and understanding when talking about climate change. The second half will look at aims and strategy development as a forum.

Refugee and Migrant Forum Update

On 19 October, participants from Africa, Asia and Latin America came together for the first ever UK Refugee and Migrant Climate Change Forum, held at the Amnesty Action Centre in London.  The event was opened by Grace Adok of Latitude Care Network who called a minute’s silence for all those suffering climate change impacts across the globe.  Scientist presentations were then given on climate change impacts on migration as well as the possibilities for adaptation.  Participants brainstormed ideas about the kinds of action they’d like to take including lobbying, advocacy and awareness-raising.  Further activities and meetings will be arranged to take these ideas forward. If you’re a refugee or migrant and would like to get involved in the Forum, please contact Hannah Smith, hannah@coinet.org.uk.

Climate Change Refugee Forum

Are you an activist in the refugee or migrant community? Can you help out on a meeting for refugees and migrants about Climate Change? COIN will be holding a four hour forum in London on 19 October in partnership with Migrant Rights, Praxis, Refugee Action and the Refugee Council to give UK refugees and migrants the opportunity to talk about climate change. We hope this will be the first of a series of forums.   Find out more...
